The Gathering Foundation Inc., a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, was formed in 2007 during the development phases of The Gathering of Mustangs & Legends air show, held September 27 – 30, 2007 at Rickenbacker International Airport in Columbus, Ohio. The show attracted more than 150,000 visitors from around the world and featured a tribute to the P-51 Mustang, along with other vintage aircraft such as the T-6 Texan, P-47, P-38 and more. 

The interest in historical aviation runs far and wide and spans many generations, from those who flew and maintained aircraft during their service years, to those who work diligently to preserve the glorious history of combat aircraft through restoration. The Gathering Foundation works to support the collection, exchange and archive of information as it pertains to vintage fighter aircraft and the brave men and women who flew or serviced these aircraft in war times.

The mission of the Gathering Foundation, Inc. is to assist in preserving the legacy of the remaining vintage fighter aircraft throughout the world by sustaining their history and contribution to aviation.

To fulfill this mission, The Gathering Foundation is developing an online museum where aviation enthusiasts around the world can enjoy and learn about the history of vintage fighter aircraft and the heroes who flew and maintained them.  An archive of information and resources will also be available for vintage fighter aircraft pilots and owners.
